"A Night in Bethlehem"

The Mount Baldy had their Christmas Party, called "A Night in
Bethlehem". Everyone dressed they there were from Bethlehem, except
us. It started in the Chapel where the Primary kids sang a few songs
and then Bishop spoke about the true meaning of Christmas. Then we all
headed into the gym which had a manager and some cute "Bethlehem" style
shops with light refreshments. The ward had created a live nativity
complete with songs, and a song sung by the Bishopric. There were lots
of members and nonmembers there. We met the Youngs. They are a friend
of Brother Timmons. They LOVED the activity. We talked to them about
how our foundation is on Christ. They actually wanted to meet with us
on Tuesday. They also attended the Christmas Sacrament meeting this
past Sunday.

We had zone meeting! It went quite well. We took a group photo :)

We also had transfer meeting. A large group of missionaries I have
served around headed home. It was fun to connect with the friends I
haven't seen in a while.

We had a marvelous lesson with Gary at the Hopsons home. It started
off with dinner and then we taught The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Talking
about faith, repentance, baptism, sacrament, and receiving the gift of
the Holy Ghost. Gary enjoyed the " A Savior is Born" video. He wanted
to watch it twice. Although he didn't come to church he did come to an
activity a member was hosting. They put on a Christmas concert each
year, they're musically inclined. With songs written about the Savior.
We got to attend twice.

Susie is a lady who some past sisters helped paint with. And she's
been wanting to repay them for a while, even though neither of them
are here. So we got to eat with Susie and her family and the Killpacks
as well. It went fairly well. We showed "A Savior is Born." Susie's
mother started to cry. She said it reminded her of her father.

We also met with Robert and Tierra. Robert isn't a member but is
interested in learning about what Tierra believes. He wants to marry
her. But she is looking for someone who believes as she does. He's an
interesting man. We couldn't' stay long, they were running late & we
had another appointment with children so we couldn't be too long. We
showed "A Savior is Born." And asked why we need a Savior. We heard
that after we left that he asked a lot more questions about prayer and
such!

Overall this was an exciting week!
Pictures: our zone. (And yes. My eyes are closed.)

Joy to the World!

We received two referrals this week! We were able to contact one. She
met the missionaries in Hawaii. When she took a tour of the grounds.
The other Rachael, she canceled our appointment. :( next week !!!

We went district caroling! That was quite a bit of fun. We visited the
Hansens and the Phillips. Sister Phillips isn't a member. But she
wants to attend the wards Christmas program on Sunday! We sang Joy to
the World and ended at the senior couples apartment, the Lunds.

We also had the ward Christmas party. It was way cool! The primary
president wrote a script for. Bunch of people to speak. You went
through different rooms learning about the Savior. From the Angel, to
Isaiah, and to Mary. There wasn't a huge turnout. But the Kiasers did
come!! Which was super exciting. They work a crazy work schedule. So
we were pretty ecstatic when they came. Some members also invited
their non member friends.

We got transfer calls I'm staying with Sister Price for the next 7
weeks here in Eagle River.

Hope you all had a wonderful week :)

Where's a mans watch?

Last p day we all went to bear mountains investigators home for a
chili feast! Turns out I'd actually met them when I was serving in
Fairbanks. So it was fun to reconnect with them.

We also went on exchanges. I was with Sister Dall in ocean view (south
anchorage). It was quite a lot of fun. We shared the church's new
Christmas video with everyone! If you haven't seen it. It's a must !
It's called "A Savior is Born". You can find it on
Christmas.mormon.org. And I'm sure it's on YouTube and Facebook as
well. I love that video. It's a great reminder to put Christ back into
Christmas. It's easy to get  caught up in presents and just the hustle
and bustle. But the true meaning of Christmas is the Savior. alma
11:40 ( in The Book of Mormon) it talks about why the Savior came " to
save us from all our sins. All our sadnesses." ( "A Savior is Born"
video). It's wonderful!

We also attended mount baldy and eagle River valleys relief
society(the women of the church)  Christmas parties. They were a
blast!!!

We helped out the senior center this week. They needed to people to
assist some of the elderly with their shopping. Sister price and I
helped Joanna. She's a sweet lady. She didn't want anything on the
list they gave us.... Hahah. She kept asking EVERYONE for a mans
watch. Haha that and safety pins. She was a sweet lady :)

I hope you've all had a chance to watch the Christmas devotional from
the First Presidency! It was just an hour and 15 mins. Some the
highlights for me were: it's a stellar want to end a fast ( where you
go without food and drink for 2 consecutive meals for a purpose), to
hear the Mormon tabernacle choir sing "carol of the bells", and I
really want noted President Uchtdorfs talk on gratitude. Especially
the story where he tells about a man in Africa who has spent his whole
life without the use of his legs. President Uchtdorf explains the
moment of when the man finally receives a wheelchair. Oh the freedom
he felt and the tears of gratitude he shed.

I also hit 15 months!!

I love you all and I hope you're having a wonderful Christmas season.

Artichoke and fry sauce, Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving was the best! We did TONS of service. Helping people get
ready for their thanksgiving. We helped the Lunds, Oldhams, and Sister
Goff.for the Lunds we framed thank you cards, the Oldhams I cut up a
couple of pineapples, and sister gods we vacuumed, swept, cooked
cookies, and I cut up tons of boxes to be recycled. We ate with the
Cardier, Galloways, and Sister Schmitt. The Cardiers are usually
vegetarians. But they decided to have a turkey anyways. We had so many
pies and drew lots of pictures of turkeys :)
Last p day we had a once activity we went bowling!

We helped out in primary this week in the mount baldy Ward. We talked about the Good Samaritan. Jr. primary drew pictures of themselves doing service and for senior primary we showed a video called " an extraordinary gift". It's a Mormon message about a young man who is a piano prodigy. He can play any piece of music just by listening to it twice. He is also blind. In the video we hear the testimony of one of his friends about the service he does for others. People come to church early just to hear him play! It's amazing how service an change us. "when your in the service of your fellowmen your really in the service of your God."

So to explain the artichokes and fry sauce! That's actually one of the meals we had this week. And it was delicious!!! We just peeled the leaves off and dipped the soft end into some sauce (everyone else had some kinda spicy fry sauce .....I opted for the non spicy ). it was really really good :)

I hope you all have had a wonderful thanksgiving! It's a wonderful time to reflect of what you're grateful for :)

Love you all! And hope you are doing well.

Still working on getting a chord for voice recordings & pictures. Walmart doesn't sell them :(

"Bear naked bear story"

This week has been super eventful! We lost our phone this week. Well I

lost it. I never realized how much we used that thing to connect with

people till it was gone.... We searched high and low for it. Never

found it. We've come to the conclusion that a moose ran off with it.

Because I seriously have NO IDEA where it is. But we did get a

replacement.

We also attended the temple this week! I love the temple. Especially

anchorage. It's one of the smallest ones :) the spirit is always so

strong there.

Eagle River valley had a ward pie night to kick off thanksgiving. So

many pies! We spent all morning inviting people to attend.  There was

a huge turnout. It was wonderful! I also got to meet some the ward.

Which is always nice.

This week we've been sharing a thought on gratitude. The church came

out with this video in NYC a few years ago. It's called "the spirit of

thanksgiving". I love it! We've been inviting everyone to say a

gratitude prayer. So I just invite you all to do that. It's a amazing

all the things you can come up with. From material things,

experiences, to the spiritual things. Heavenly Father has blessed us

in countless ways.

Sister Thacker, November 16, 2015

Well we had transfers! I'm with Sister Price in Eagle River. We cover
2 wards. Eagle River Valley and Mt. Baldy. Still getting used to it
all! Church was a huge help in placing people into what ward they
belong .... For everyone who says 3 hours of church is far to long,
try being in my shoes we have 5 hours ... But it all moves pretty
quickly :)

We had a miracle this week with Amanda. Amanda is a potential
investigator. We kind of had a "do or die" approach. She's been
avoiding the sisters... But we saw that she was home and she actually
answered! Told us to try her this weekend :) she smiled when she saw
us. Yay!

And Alaska is finally cold! We hit -3 this week. But it's foretasted

to warm up ....

Sorry for the lack of photos and voice recording ... There isn't a
regular computer to use in eagle river ( the library is closed on
Mondays) so I'm stuck using this iPad. I'm buying a chord later today!

Hope you all are doing well. I just finished Alma In The Book of Mormon!

09 November 2015

"If you hit a moose, hit him in the butt!!"

Hit 14 months!!
Received our transfer calls. Sister Bangerter is staying in Colony with Sister Albrcht. And I'm going to Eagle River (15 mins ish away). With Sister Price. We were in the MTC Together!
We FINALLY saw the Northern Lights. I have been searching for them my entire mission!! They were beautiful. Sadly our cameras were not that great. And couldn't pick them up....
We've been able to teach a lot of lessons this week!! Which is AMAZING!! :) Getting to say good bye to people gives us a great excuse to call on people multiple times a week. A miracle we saw is that Sister Pigg finally came to church!! She has a lot of health problems but has been feeling so much better. And she came to Sacrament (the first meeting on Sunday. It's a time where we meet together as a congregation and partake of the Sacrament, blesses bread and water. Which is in remembrance of the Savior & to renew our faith in our baptismal promises.) I love Sister Pigg. She is amazing! She has so many life experiences :)
This week we've been showing lots of people a Bible Video that is a summary of the Saviors life and his sacrifice for us, the Atonement. Its really a neat video. The Spirit really testifies very strongly during it. We've been talking about how the Savior helps us to make changes in our lives. That we can learn about him through so many different avenues. Scripture reading, praying, and church attendance. But there are a multitude of ways to grow your faith in the Savior. And I just invite you all to pick one! Whether thats saying more heart felt prayers, doing more service, or acting kinder. What ever you may choose I know that it can change your life & help you to become more the Jesus Christ.

To explain why this email is called "if you hit a moose hit him in the butt!!" is from a non member named Robb. We just took a picture with him & his wife :) He gives us all sorts of neat tips.
I love you all! Hope you are doing well.

Its snowing!!

02 November 2015

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The Colony ward has a Halloween Party. Surprisingly (because it was created so last minute) a lot of people came. Sadly non of our investigators came but a lot of members invited people! There was pumpkin carving and they had set up the classrooms as "houses". So lots of candy was given :)

We also had to chance to drive to Anchorage (45 minutes drive) to the Temple. Oh it was wonderful! It's such a blessing to be in the house of the Lord. The Anchorage temple is way small. But its so beautiful!

We also met with Fran this week! We thought we'd have to do some repair (cause last lesson the member the Elders brought talked a lot!) but she wanted the "Brother Missionaries" to come as well. (Fran is actually in a different ward, the Elders ward.) So the Elders came along. We talked about the Atonement, where Christ suffered and died for us. The spirit was so strong. Fran has a strong testimony of Christ & his Atonement.

Halloween was a lot of fun! Holidays are really hard for us because people want to only spend time with their families. We had to be in at 7 pm anyways. But we met, as district, at the Castelmans. We made cookies to help strengthen our investigators. It was a lot of fun! We gave them to Tommi & the Parkers.
over all this has been a great week! i hope you are all doing well. :) Also the SNOW has come!!
love you!

Cora's Baptism!!!

Cora was baptized by immersion on Oct 24!!! And was confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Oct 25 :) We filled the font so we were at the church most of saturday. It takes a couple of hours & we promised it would be warm water. It was amazing! The Elders came & watched the font for about 20 mins while we grabbed dinner before Cora & Audrey arrived. Audrey was also baptized on the 24. She shared a baptismal service with Cora. It was a blessing to be able to witness that. Cora has such a strong testimony. Its been incredible to witness it grow even more. I gave the talk on Baptism. It was a bit nerve racking considering I realized during the prayer that I never turned the font off!! So before I spoke I quickly ran in there to turn it off.... really embarrassing. But luckily the talk went well!! We also were able to attend Settlers Bay's sacrament meeting (it was at a different time than our wards.) to witness Cora's confirmation, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost as your constant companion. Audrey was confirmed during the Baptismal Service.
We also visited Sister Gregory. She is a returning less active. She just moved into a trailer. It is seriously the nicest trailer I have ever seen!! She also got a new job & her daughter is living with her again. Sister Gregory is a really sweet lady. She's also a foster parent!
We visited the Doctors for Sister Bangerter's ankle. She hurt it a couple months back & its still healing.
Last P-day we played board games as a district. It was alot of fun!! We're going up Hatchers Pass today. Just going to walk around. Can't really do to many fun hikes because of her bad ankles... but we'll do what we can!!
This week has been very fun! This coming week we are attending the Temple & its Halloween. YAY! We have to be in at 7pm but we'll still have fun :)

Pictures:
Cora and Audrey's baptism!
The Sun rises here are beautiful!! (even behind trees....)

"My Little Sisters in Christ."- Fran October 19, 2015

We hike the Butte! Its in Palmer AK. Its actually quite fun but really hard..... Lets just say I still feel the Butte. President Robinson gave us permission to go on mini exchanges. Because Sister Bangerter isn't allowed to hike, she hurt her ankles a couple of months ago. So Sister Rose & I teamed up! Along with the rest of the zone.

We also went on exchanges. Sister Johonstun and I stayed in Colony. Sister Johohnstun has only been out a transfer longer than me. We had a lot of fun. Cora had her interview!! So that was super exciting. We also visited with the Parkers (investigators), The Wolcotts (she was the missionary who taught Liam so he could be baptized), & the cute Moffats (actives). It was a really full day!!

We had Zone Conf, which is when all the missionaries in Palmer & Wasilla come together. Plus Valdeaz & Willow. And we receive trainings on how to be more effective missionaries. Its very uplifting! The main thing that stood out was Being Bold. Whether that is with ourselves, investigators, extending invitations, or just helping people.

Kelly & Connor texted us and told us they would like to baptized before Dec 14!! We can totally help with that :) We are stopping by later today. We're planning on reviewing the Restoration (its be 2 months since they last heard it.) & ask them to pray for a specific date!

We also visited with Fran. Fran lives in Matanuska ward. So those elders came along with us. They brought some members from their ward. Let's just say the member basically took control. It was quite awkward.... I was able to jump in a few times. But mostly I was cut off & interrupted.... We're are seeing her Tuesday though! "I love my little sisters in Christ.".

We also had Stake conference ( when the members & those who are interested come together for one big adult meeting & a large meeting on Sunday. People from the congregation are invited). Most of it was on Marriage. Which was interesting considering i'm not married. But I am helping families become eternal families.

I hope you all have been doing well! I have. This week has been a full one.
PS: Cora gets baptized on Saturday at 6!

Zone meeting, Sisters Training, & the Parkers October 12, 2015

We had Zone meeting this week. (That's just where all the missionaries in Wasilla & Palmer come together for some additional training.) Its always a lot of fun!! The Zone Leaders will tell us some new rules/ reminders to remember & follow.

We also had Sisters Training. We traveled to South Anchorage (45 min drive.). Sisters Training is when all the sisters in the mission come together. (either in person or through Skype.) This time they focused on Charity. I love Sisters training. We only have about 24 sisters in our mission. So we've got to stay together!

We also were able to reconnect with the Parkers. They've been super busy because of summer & school starting. But we're excited to start teaching them again. And have set up an appointment for next week. I can't wait!

We also attended the ward's Young Women in Excellence. Which is when they welcome the girls turning 12 into Young Womens & talk about the purpose of the program. Shortest YW in excellence i've ever attended, 25-35 mins. It was really good! I love the youth :)

I hope you all have had a chance to listen to Conference. My favorite talks were by Elder Robert D. Hales, "Meeting the Challenges of Today's World." & President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "My Summer with Great Aunt Rose." Enjoy!

I love you all! I hope you are all doing well.

05 October 2015

Transfers, General conference, & Cora set a date!!

We had transfers!! I'm back with Sister Bangerter. And we're taking over Colony ;)

Cora set a baptismal date!!! OCTOBER 24 :)  I am way EXCITED!!! She's getting baptized the same day as her cute nicece, Audrey. We're meeting with her later this week to figure out all the details. She is on fire!!

General Confernce ( happens every 6 months & is when the Living Prophet, Thomas S. Monson & the Apostles speak.) was on saturday &sunday. Fran was able to come to one of the sessions. It was so cute! Every once in a while we'd hear her say "YES!" during the General Women's session she'd throw her hands up in the air. (its how she grew up.)

I also participated in a musical number for transfers. We (Sister McGraw, Elder Brock, & I.) sand "Joseph Smith's First Prayer" to the tune of "Come Thou Fount". I'd say it went pretty well. Considering we didn't have much time to practice & we sang occapella.

I also hit 13 months :)

transfers, Muk Tuk, Women's conf. September 28, 2015

This week has been pretty interesting!

Sister McGee & I both had dreams about Sister Razavi. Poor Sister McGee sometimes sleep talks. I guess a couple of days ago she got out of bed, crawled over to the hole (I sleep downstairs because the bedroom is to small for me.), & yelled "Sister Thacker I talked to Sister Razavi & she's doing okay." Than she got back into bed. Needless to say we had a good laugh. A few days later I dreamt that Sister Razavi texted us and told us she got a job interview. I told my comps that. Needless to say Sister McGee got confused and announced that to Ward Council. It was really funny! Considering I than explained I had that dream while I was sleeping......

We also got to try a native delicacy. Its called Muk Tuk (not sure if I even spelled that right.) But its basically whale blubber. I actually swallowed it! (my companions chickened and spat it out!) It was .... not my favorite.

We also attended the General Womens session. Fran & Kelly both came!!! Which was really exciting :)

We also only have 2 lessons left to teach Cora! I'm so excited. She's praying about a baptismal date  still :)

We also got Transfers. Sister McGee is off to Fairbanks, Sister Bybee to North Anchorage YSA, & i'm staying in Colony. Sister Bangerter is coming over! We're reunited! :)

I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

love you all :)

also the computer is having problems attaching files! Sorry!

ALASKA WELCOMES YOU!! September 21, 2015

I arrived in Alaska last Monday at about noon Alaska Time! I've been put in a trio up in the Wasilla Colony ward. With Sister McGee & Bybee.

This ward is hoping. This week we picked up a new investigator, Cora. She has done her own research & basically knows all the lessons. She's just taking them as a formality so she qualify s for Baptism. She's actually praying about a specific day :)

We also taught the Lomu Family. They are so cute! 5 kids. 2 of them are taking the lessons, Docelyn and Breaunda. We sadly have to pass them off the the Elders because they recently moved out of our area.

The Mortorells are also praying about a date! Which is really exciting :) Kaisey is extremely prepared.

Sister McGraw ( a missionary in the Palmer ward) and I are singing a duet at Transfer meeting. Still working on it! But it hopefully won't embarrass us ;)

Heathly, Baptims, Picture miracle September 7th, 2015

alright sorry this is so late! Happy (late) Labor day to everyone.

So last week I made a major mistake.... dum dum doo! I accidentally left my USB in the computer. The USB that has ALL my mission photos. ALL of them!! The mission office called me and said that I'd left it ... and I thought "me? oh no. I'd never." so i searched my bag, just to be sure. And sure enough. After a tiny freak out. I ran to every floor of the library. And As i'm freaking out, a man comes up to me. "are you Sister Thacker? I found your USB its down a floor." Of course I am! I thanked him a lot. And i'll admit it I cried. Miracle people! MIRACLE. Who spends their 1 hr computer time looking at someones photo, googling the Alaska mission office number, & actually calling it??? He's either a member or just a really REALLY good person.

I also did Baptisms for the dead. (where those who have passed away & haven't been baptized. now have the opportunity through proxy to be baptized. We know that baptism is the first saving ordinance & can only happen here on earth. And that's why its important to do your family work!). Oh my goodness!! I have watched 6 people on my mission accept the Gospel. Which has been a huge blessing. But to to actually be the proxy. All i can is say AMAAAZING!! I have missed it! I've missed doing Baptisms.

I've decided to show you all what a basic day in my life is like- at the moment.

07 September 2015

Mission buddies, Results, and Steven August 31

Got results from my biopsy & blood work. I'm one step closer to returning!!

I've had many opportunities to share the gospel this week! I've chosen just one experience to highlight. While I was in the library I was approached by a young man, Steven. Who proceeded to give me his phone number. I told him about my mission & how I would be returning shortly. He still asked me for my contact info.
Is it bad that I gave him the Mission Office's Phone number & said it was mine? I hope he does call. On the mission office's prompt. Number 1 is, "if you are interested in Learning about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Press 1." Maybe he will! Who knows. Everyone needs the gospel. Even Steven!!

I also wanted to thank everyone who participated in the Fast ( A fast is where you go 2 consecutive meals without food or drink for a special purpose. And in turn receive special blessings.) my mother put together! And also for those who have given me names so I can do their temple work :)

I've also been able to spend some time with past companions & mission buddies! I love & have missed them all :)

I also received the ( I left Fairbanks before she was baptized. But I had the blessing of teaching her the Gospel.)

I hope you all have a wonderful week! And find many opportunities to bear your testimony :)

25 August 2015

Book of Mormon, Temple sessions, Raymond

This week has been a busy one! Full of doctors appts, temple sessions, & sharing the Gospel!!

I met Raymond while I was on Temple Square. I'm not sure how accountable he is. He kept asking if I've seen the movie? And if I believe in Magic? (Harry potter magic? I wish! but No.) I was able to teach him a bit about temples, introduce him to the Sister Missionaries, and He got a Book of Mormon!

I also met a man on trax. The Trax Man! ( he never shared his name....) Anyways he asked me where I was going. I was heading to Temple square from the Doctors. We had  a nice conversation about Temples. He was once and investigator and was actually going to meet one of the Sister Missionaries who originally taught him. I re invited him to take lessons. He said he'd think about it.

I've been the temple quite a bit this week... actually 5 times a week I think.... So if you have names you'd like me to do let my parents know!! I love the temple. Its such a peaceful place. You can't hear the outside world. Even though I've gone inside and done an endowment session multiple times I still learn something new! If you haven't been to the temples this month, or even this summer take the time!! "You will reap the blessings of Heaven" (or something along those lines) -President Thomas S. Monson. And I agree full heartily with that!!

I also finished the Book of Mormon 2 days ago! What a wonderful feeling. I was studying every time the word Love or Heart is mentioned. Its amazing to see that its mentioned on almost every page! If you haven't started the Book of Mormon now's the time. Cause there's no time like today!!

I love you all! And hope you are doing well.

August 17, 2015 Andrea's baptism, Medical life

We had the opportunity to witness Andrea's (Jewel Lake ward) baptism! It was wonderful. I was invited to sing in the choir as well. Andrea has never been so happy! In the few months that I didn't get to see her she has definitely changed. She seems so much more peaceful & happy :) The spirit was so strong! It was wonderful to see her & her family again.

As many of you know I have been sick for the past couple of weeks. Because of my condition I have been sent to SLC for better medical care and will be returning to Alaska as soon as I am well.

I hope you are doing well. I am released but I am still a missionary! I hope you are all doing well. I love you all. Sorry if this was a Debbie downer.
